Low oil pressure at idle. I have a 92 ctd that shows good oil pressure when the oil is cold (idling and high rpm). But when the oil is warm and idling only, the pressure drops to about 9 psi on the mechanical gauge. Thats lower than I feel comfortable with. That is a little low, should be around 35 or so warm at idle, and between 65 and 80 while driving, Mine never gets below 35 and it has 225k on the clock, try a fresh oil change and 1 quart of lucas in with the other oil. Check and see if it drops when you have the engine up to temp. Oil pressure is oil pressure as long as the tap for the gauge is close to the source. The oil sender is an on/off switch which I think is set around 6-10 psi. If oil pressure is above the setpoint, the gauge reads "normal" which is a bit over 40.
