Epoxy primer vs self etching

I personally like the etching primer because it perportedly eats into the steel surface. Also, the epoxy primers are illegal in Calif, at least for sealeer coats. Maybe they are still legal for bare metal. Not sure. We can still use two part polyester primers which go over the etch primer base and fill and stick as well as the epoxy ones do.

This self-etching primer went on smooth and appears to be adhering well to the surface of the stainless steel wheel inserts I painted. The primer was a base coat for a black epoxy paint I used to finish coating the wheel inserts. Right now everything looks great. Hopefully, the primer will be durable and hold up for the long haul.I used it on interior peices as I was building. Everything got a coat of epoxy primer and epoxy top coat (PPG Concept) after installed. No signs of wearing, pealing, or cracking after 5 years and 450+ hours of flying. Exterior all done with PPG self etching primer, epoxy primer, and epoxy top coat. Paint is bullet proof.
