Hir bulbs are brighter lumen wise over standard halogen bulbs... some may not notice, but they are... with that said, there are many hir bulbs that really aren't hir's... most hir bulbs are more bulbous than standard halogens... if yours looks like a regular halogen it likely is just a re-labeled halo bulb... just saying...HIR bulbs -- 3 thumbs up. For the high beam, buy some 9011 HIR Philips bulbs. Google how to modify the 9011 bulbs to fit a 9005 socket. Again very easy. You will definitely be impressed with the HIR bulb. Amazon sells them. EDIT: Don't buy any bulbs that mention whiter output or blue.
