A sledgehammer in real life is pretty heavy so intent to use it as a weapon would be foolish. Same goes for in game. I've only ever used it as a tool for destruction of walls, stairs etc.At first I thought the sledgehammer might have smashed the surrounding roof tiles too so I tried placing down floors (despite the fact that the roof was still visually there and when placed the new floor tiles were hidden under the roof) but no it was the entire roof. ... Sledgehammer needs you to right-click whatever it is that you want to destroy. -crates generally have a "Destroy Carpentry" opton. -walls are sometimes "Destroy Wall" or "Destroy Industry". It's always worthwhile to get at the crates that are further back; lots of stuff there.
