To lube the cable, disconnect it at the bottom or transmission end. Pull out the inner cable and wipe it clean with a rag. Once you remove the cluster, you unscrew the cable and lubricate the end of the tip. Make sure you clean it first. Then you do not need much of this. Maybe the size of a pea on the cable.The manual refers to removing the whole assembly: cable and housing. With the cluster out and speedo cable disconnected, you just pull the cable out its housing, lube it and reinstall.
