TLDR: Pair the grill with the Wifi Access Point when the controller is OFF. I solved it! Had the same problem. It would not connect to my AP and it appeared it was connecting to itself because it displayed the message described in other comments, Access Point connected to Traeger-541E.Once logged in, select Connected Devices. Select EDIT next to the doorbell in the device list.* Select the Reserved IP radio button, then select SAVE. *If the device is not connected to the home WiFi network, it will not appear in the Connected Devices list.
